TLIF2018 - Operate firefighting equipment

Introduction

This course is for anyone required to have a basic understanding and skills to be able to extinguish a fire in an emergency. Fire doubles in size every 2 minutes and can be out of control within 5 minutes. Fires can be caused in all workplaces through faulty electrical wiring, chemicals not stored correctly, natural occurrences and accidental fires. This course is designed to ensure that anyone fighting a fire will understand the elements necessary for a fire, different types of fires, what equipment to use for different fires, and the correct emergency procedures to follow in the event of a fire. This course will cover the following aspects:

Check firefighting equipment | What equipment do you need to use? How do you know the equipment is safe to use?
Use firefighting equipment | How do you safely use the equipment? How do you check the equipment? How should the equipment be stored?
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • All Students must have basic English reading and writing skills to successfully complete this course. Interpreters are not allowed.
  • Students who may require additional support are encouraged to inform WA Skills Training staff prior to commencing the course.
  • All course participants are required to wear appropriate PPE – long pants, long sleeve high-viz shirt and steel capped safety boots are required.

Full course: Blended learning | theory online, practical at our training centres in Bunbury & Welshpool

*Practical assessments may be simulated depending on weather conditions and fire bans.

Full Course: Blended learning; Theory online and practical in class.

Enrolment Process

*All enrolment paperwork must be submitted in full prior to 3pm to be enrolled that day.

Step 1: Complete enrolment

Step 2: Complete Student Support Services Form

Step 3: Make payment of $175

Step 4: Receive your login details and complete online theory assessment * Once you have been enrolled you will have 3 months from your enrolment date in which you will need to complete the theory and practical assessments.

Step 5: On successful completion of theory assessment contact the office to arrange a date and time to complete your practical assessment

Step 6: Practical assessment completed and your Statement of Attainment will be issued in accordance with our issuance policy

When you have your login details and have logged into the online system you will have access to a course manual and power point to study prior to attempting the theory assessment. These are here for you to review your knowledge prior to commencing the theory assessment.

You will need to score 90% or more in your theory assessment in order to be able to confirm your practical assessment time and date. If you score 90% or above, the trainer on the day of your practical assessment will ask you the questions you got incorrect verbally with you.

If you are unsuccessful in obtaining 90% or more, you will be required to re-enrol into the theory assessment for a second attempt.   We would suggest you review the course manual and PowerPoint prior to completing your second attempt and take your time reading and answering the questions.

If you are still not successful at gaining 90% or more you will then be required to sit this course face-to-face at an additional cost to yourself.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in accordance with our Issuance Policy and Procedure

Payment is required in full before login details can be issued. Payment can be made by credit card in person or over the phone, or via bank transfer.
